Website Search Engine is an application that allows users to easily add a search box to their website allowing visitors to search through the website pages.


Install Search Engine


1. Click on “Install Search Engine”

Our website search engine tool lets you install a search engine on your website. Once installed, this engine is stored as a search_form.html file in your /public directory.

With basic HTML knowledge you can modify the page design or link your website to this page. Alternatively, you can also copy the code generated below and paste it at appropriate location of your website.

Search engine's visual and display preferences can be modified within the "Usage" section.


2. Press "Process Install" button to begin installation process.


Usage


1. Click on “Usage” in order to manage your Website Search Engine settings.


I. Indexing page


1. Click on “Index site” in order to start indexing your pages.


Note: Larger sites will take more time to index.


II. Preferences


A. Search Engine - set your search engine preferences


1. Choose the minimum word length from the drop- down menu.

2. Rate importance of words found in the title (1 Least important, 5 Most important) by choosing a number from the drop-down menu.

3. Rate importance of words found in the META values (1 Least important, 5 Most important) by choosing a number from the drop-down menu.

4. Choose from the drop-down menu the maximum length of <title> elements.

5. If you would like to add index numbers, check off the “Index numbers” box.

6. If you want to log the queries to an extra file, check off the Log the queries to an extra file box.

7. If you would like to increase the score of results containing multiple searched "Keywords” check off the Increase the score of results containing multiple searched "Keywords” box.

8. Click “Apply” in order to save the changes made.

• Click “Cancel” in order to dismiss any changes made.


B. Visual – set our visual preferences

C. Filters – set your filter preferences


In terms of setting up your filters there are two options available: Extension filter and Directory filter.

Extension filter


1. Click on “Add file extension” in order to add a new file extension. A new text box will appear.

2. Enter the file extension in the text box.

3. Click “Add” to add the new file extension to the list of file extensions.

4. To remove an extension from the list click on the delete icon.

• Click “Apply” to save the changes you made.

• Click “Cancel” to dismiss any changes you have made.


Directory filter


1. Select one or more directories.


Note: To select multiple, Windows users must hold down the 'CTRL' key, and Mac users the 'Apple' key while clicking in the box.


2. Click “Apply” to save the changes you made.

• Click “Cancel” to dismiss any changes you made.


III. Manage Code


In this section you can manage the search form code.


You can either import the Search Engine automatically to your webpage or you can manually copy and paste the generated HTML code to your web page.


1. Click “Import Search Engine” to automatically import search engine to your webpage.

OR

1. Select the code in the text area and press “Ctrl+C” to copy it to the clipboard.

2. Place the code where the toolbar should be displayed.


Uninstall


1. Click “Uninstall Search Engine” to uninstall search engine.


Note: Uninstall will completely disable Website Search Engine for your domain. It can take approximately 2-3 minutes for the server to remove the search engine from your website. After un-installation is complete, all previously added search boxes will not work, you will have to remove them manually from your html files using HTML Editor application.
