Overview

The File Manager Tool is used to upload, download, delete and rename files or directories, change permissions, and much more.

Access the File Manager Pro:

  1. Log into the Control Panel with your Registration number and Customer password.
  2. Select Web Hosting from the top navigation bar.
  3. Next, select Hosted Domains and click on Manage Hosted Domains.
  4. Click on the name of the domain you wish to manage.
  5. Click the File Manager Pro icon.

You will see your directory tree structure in the left panel, and the contents of the current directory in the right. You can use the left panel to browse through your directories.

Changing directories

To change the directory that you are currently viewing, double click on the directory name that you want to access within the left panel. The content of the chosen directory will be displayed in the right panel. You may move a file from one directory to another simply by dragging it to the wanted directory.

Deleting files

To delete a file, select the filename in the right panel and click the Delete button. Multiple files can be deleted in one operation using standard windows selection methods (control and click). You will be warned before the operation occurs. A dialog box gives you the option of aborting the procedure.

Note: Once a file is deleted, it cannot be recovered.

Renaming files

To rename a file, select the file to be renamed, right click and from the menu choose the Rename button. Enter the new name in the field provided and click the "Rename" button to finish the operation.

Copying files

To make a copy of an existing file, select the file to be copied right click and choose Copy (or you may click on the "Copy" button located on top of the page)button. Select a target directory in the left panel and paste the file into the new directory.

Moving files

To move a file from its original location to a new location, select the file to be moved, click and drag it to the wanted directory. Once you are about to place it into the new directory a small menu will pop up. Select the Move option in order to move the selected file into the directory.

Create a directory

To create a new directory, click on the New Directory button on top of the page. You will be prompted to enter a name for your directory in the field provided. Click Create to create the new directory.

Removing a directory

Setting file permissions

To set permissions on a file, select the file right click and from the menu select the Permissions option. You will be displayed with a pop up window where you can check the desired permission check boxes. Once done click on Apply to save the changes or click Cancel to dismiss all the changes.


Editing files

File Manager Pro allows you to edit text files on the server. This is convenient since you do not have to edit the file on a local machine, then upload it to the server.

To edit a file on the server, select the file you want to edit, right click and from the menu select the Edit as text option. An editing window will appear. Edit the file as necessary and click the "Save" button. To cancel the editing and not save the changes, click the Close button.

Downloading files

File Manager's Download function allows you to download files from the server to your local machine. Note that you cannot download files from the "cgi-bin" directory using this function.

To download a file, choose the file you want to download , right click and select the Download option. The "File Download" dialog box will be displayed. Specify the local directory where you want to save the file. The file will be downloaded to the specified directory on your machine.

Only one file at a time can be downloaded. To download more than one file at a time, it is more efficient to use an FTP client.
